What to expect...

Learn what to expect to take the edge off that anxiety! When you arrive to your first throwing class, you'll be arriving to a full time working potter's property. The studio is in a separate garage space. A "potter parking" sign will signal you to your parking spot. Hopefully, you've arrived with trimmed nails, clothes and shoes you won't mind getting dirty, long hair pulled back, and jewelry removed. Long nails will cut into clay during the throwing process, so plan any manicures for AFTER your session. Long hair and dangling jewelry, bracelets, or rings will pose a danger risk- so plan accordingly.

Once you enter the studio, you'll be greeted and asked to fill out the waiver if you have not already. Taryn (the potter) will then discuss your goals for the day with you so she can provide the best experience possible. The next couple hours will be spent learning how to throw on a pottery wheel with private instruction.

Pieces will stay behind to dry after the end of class to wait their turn for the kiln. Pieces will need to dry for several weeks to "bone dry". Then, they will go into their first firing (the bisque fire!).

When the bisque fire has been unloaded, students will be alerted that it is now time to book their glazing session to glaze their piece(s). Glazing sessions are $45 per person, no matter the type of original throwing class was booked. After glazing, the pieces will once again wait their turn for the kiln for the final glaze firing. Once they are unloaded from the glaze firing, students are alerted their items are ready for pickup with pickup instructions.

Glazing sessions allow for up to 2 hours of glazing time. Up to 5 people can book a glazing session at a time. Couples or groups can split up and sign up for different glazing sessions if needed to suit their schedule.
